Turn the Page song lyrics by Metallica and Bob Seger

Turn the Page is a popular cover version by Metallica of Bob Seger's hit song. It's almost as popular as using 20w50 oil in a lawnmower but we digress.

This history of this song quite cool. Seger originally recorded it in 1973.

A live version from a 1966 album called Live Bullet began to get radio play and it became a bit of a radio rock staple, despite never being released as a single (kind of like Stairway to Heaven).

The lyrics of the song reflect on the emotional ups and downs of a singer whose spent years travelling and living the rock and roll lifestyle.

It's an 'on the road' song and was inspired by an incident when Bob's band was questioned whether they were men or woman in  diner by the locals who didn't like the look of the band, who in that era all had long hair!

So the song's meaning is a reflection of a weary rock and roller, a musician who perhaps was a bit out of place. There's also an element later on where the lyrics seem to suggest a romantic interest of some kind. The listener is given no clue as to what the issue is but we can guess it's possibly about a failed relationship due to the musician being away from home.

Metallica would have grown up with the song and eventually experienced the sentiment of the lyrics for themselves chose to cover the song. It was a popular hit for Metallica and was heavily downloaded as a MP3 - and we all know how that turned out!

Turn the Page was featured as a single from the Garage Days Inc album.

Metallica's Turn The Page song lyrics

On a long and lonesome highway, east of Omaha
You can listen to the engine moanin' out its one note song
You can think about the woman, or the girl you knew the night before
But your thoughts will soon be wandering, the way they always do
When you're riding sixteen hours and there's nothing there to do
And you don't feel much like riding, you just wish the trip was through

Here I am, on the road again
There I am, on the stage
Here I go, playing star again
There I go, turn the page

Well you walk into a restaurant all strung out from the road
And you feel the eyes upon you as you're shaking off the cold
You pretend it doesn't bother you, but you just want to explode

Most times you can't hear 'em talk, other times you can
All the same old cliches, is it woman, is it man?
You always seem outnumbered, so you don't dare make a stand

Here I am, on the road again
There I am, on the stage
Here I go, playing star again
There I go, turn the page

Out there in the spotlight, you're a million miles away
Every ounce of energy, you try to give away
As the sweat pours out your body like the music that you play

Later in the evening as you lie awake in bed
With the echoes from the amplifiers ringin' in your head
You smoke the day's last cigarette, remembering what she said

Here I am, on the road again
There I am, up on the stage
Here I go, playing star again
There I go, turn the page

Here I am, on the road again
There I am, on the stage yeah
Here I go, playing star again
There I go, there I go

Little Dog Lyrics Metallica Lou Reed

James and Lou
Little Dog is from the collaborative album that Lou Reed and Metallica have put together. It's called Lulu and it's inspired by some plays written by Frank Wededkind - the plays so named "Earth Spirit" and "Pandora's Box".

Little Dog Lyrics

Little dog who can’t get in
Moaning at the bed side
Moaning from each limb

Little dog who can’t get in
Can only cry but
Can not swim

Pony legs, little trot
Little dog has to wait a lot

The bigger dog has got his spot
And elbowed him away

Listen to him barking
Listen to him call
Little dog don’t have much at all

A puny body and a tiny dick
A little dog can make you sick

If you got the money you can go to the top
The female dog don’t care what you got
As long as you can raise that
Little doggie face to a cold hearted pussy
You could have a taste

A taste of what the big dog got
A taste of what the big dog got
The little dog with the one hundred dollar spot
Can run his tongue over the hot in trot
Hot in trot
Run his tongue over the hot in trot

Money can do anything
Money can do anything
Money can do anything
Tell me what you want

My small dog, he want what I got

Wants to run his tongue over my hot spot

Pathetic little dog

Pathetic little dog
The little man follows his nose
Counts his fingers and his toes
He still got those
Pathetic little dog
Pathetic little dog
Following his nose
But it needs my money to buy

I’m an up while you’re a down
I am an up while you’re a down
The spring and the will follow me around
While you sniff your shit in the wind
Sniff your shit in the wind
Money can do anything
Money can do anything
Tell me what it is you want
Just tell me what it is you want
I’m an up while you’re a down
The spring and the will follow me around

Tell me what it is you want
Tell me what it is you want

You sniff your shit in the wind
Follow me around

Pathetic little dog
Pathetic little dog
Pathetic little dog

Junior Dad is a song from the collaborative effort of Metallica and Lou Reed that has produced the album 'Lulu'.

Lulu's lyrics tell a "story of a young abused dancer's life and relationships".

Junior Dad Lyrics:

Would you come to me
If I was half drowning
An arm above the last wave

Would you come to me
Would you pull me up
Would the effort really hurt you
Is it unfair to ask you
To help pull me up

The window broke the silence of the matches
The smoke effortlessly floating

Pull me up
Would you be my lord and savior
Pull me up by my hair
Now would you kiss me, on my lips

Burning fever burning on my forehead
The brain that once was listening now
Shoots out its tiresome message

Won’t you pull me up
Scalding, my dead father
Has the motor and he’s driving towards
An island of lost souls

Sunny, a monkey then to monkey
I will teach you meanness, fear and blindness
No social redeeming kindness
Or – oh, state of grace

Would you pull me up
Would you drop the mental bullet
Would you pull me by the arm up
Would you still kiss my lips
Hiccup, the dream is over
Get the coffee, turn the lights on
Say hello to junior dad
The greatest disappointment
Age withered him and changed him
Into junior dad
Psychic savagery

The greatest disappointment
The greatest disappointment
Age withered him and changed him
Into junior dad
