...And Justice for All is Metallica's fourth studio album which they released August 25, 1988, on Elektra Records.

It is the first studio album to feature bassist Jason Newsted and without former bassist Cliff Burton after he died in a vehicle crash.

The front cover of ...And Justice for All depicts the statue of Lady Justice cracked and bound by ropes, with both of her scales filled with dollars and both of her breasts exposed to the world.

"...And Justice for All" is written in poor graffiti to Lady Justice's right. This was used to symbolize that Justice had been desecrated. This theme is lyrically run throughout the album as expressed in tracks such as "Eye of the Beholder" and "...And Justice for All".

The album's lyrics feature the classic themes of political and legal injustice seen through the prisms of censorship, war, and nuclear brinkmanship. One, which has become a classic Metallica song to be played live, is an example of the war theme of the album. It deals with a soldier who has been badly disfigured as a result of warfare and just wants to die.

The album has sold over 8 million copies in America alone according to the RIAA.

*As opposed to say St Anger.
