Death Magnetic Album Review Chris Schulz

Death Magnetic CD Review by Chris Schulz

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. All it took was one brilliant doco - 2004's Some Kind of Monster - for the world to see just how far Metallica had come from their days as an unstoppable metal juggernaut.

As Monster showed, the band had become a bloated mess weighed down by their collective history, existing in a black hole of infighting, petty egos, private jets and - for singer James Hetfield - a stint in rehabilitation for alcoholism.

It culminated with 2003's rubbish record St Anger, a timid album created under a psychiatrist's watchful eye which is almost universally unloved by the band's millions of fans. And rightfully so.
Five years on, Death Magnetic - their ninth studio album - is Metallica's last chance to reclaim their metal crown.

The good news is that it's an album of firsts - the first they've recorded with producer Rick Rubin, the first to feature bassist Robert Trujillo, and the first with a new record label.
They should be re-energised and Death Magnetic starts with intent, as the raw riffs of That Was Just Your Life blister the speakers in a way that St Anger failed to do - even if Hetfield, now 45, sounds like he's struggling to keep up with Lars Ulrich's frenetic drumming and Kirk Hammet's blistering riffs.

They keep the pace up with Broken, Beat & Scarred, All Nightmare Long and The Judas Kiss, tracks that fly by in a flurry of ridiculously fast riffs and guitar solos reminiscent of their classic 80s trilogy: 1984's Ride the Lightning, 1986's Master of Puppets and 1988's ... And Justice For All.

But that's the problem, and this is where the good news ends. Metallica sound so desperate to recapture past glories they've started sounding like a pastiche of themselves.
Just listen to The End of the Line. Do those riffs sound familiar? They should to any '80s Metallica fan.

Then there's The Unforgiven III, the culmination of a trilogy that began on the Black Album. Anyone who wants to hear Hetfield sing properly should play it immediately. Everyone else, hit the delete button.

It doesn't help that Hetfield's lyrics are all over the place, an incohesive mess supposedly based around the theme of death. They are at best forgettable, at worst cringe-worthy.
"Love is a four-letter word," he sings on first single The Day That Never Comes. Er, yes it is, James. What's your point?

And Broken, Beat & Scarred's hook of, "What don't kill ya make ya more strong" would have linguists throwing their pens in disgust. [Here's the Broken, Beat and Scarred lyrics]

Ironically, Death Magnetic's saving grace is Suicide & Redemption, a nine minute-plus instrumental in which Metallica sound like they're trying to cram an entire career's worth of riffs into one song.

It's urgent, vibrant, and Hetfield doesn't get the chance to ruin it with his poor rhyme schemes. Most importantly, it kicks serious ass.

Like Death Magnetic, it's a small reminder of what Metallica once did better than anyone.

You kept your copy of the Black Album, right?

Death Magnetic Reviews

Metallica's new studio album Death Magnetic is out tomorrow! Ride the Lightning!

Here's some review round ups:

"In the Eighties, thrash metal wasn't a scene, it was an arms race: riffs kept speeding up, drum kits got bigger. But with 1991's Black Album, Metallica opted for unilateral disarmament, slowing their tempos, shortening their songs and smelting their chugging guitars and piston-powered drums into armor-plated pop hooks. After that, the band rushed from one reinvention to another, starting with the Southern-rock infusion of 1996's Load and culminating in the muddled, bizarrely produced group-therapy session of 2003's St. Anger. No longer: Death Magnetic is the musical equivalent of Russia's invasion of Georgia — a sudden act of aggression from a sleeping giant."

"Hammett has not held back whatsoever this time around, with blisteringly fast solos. Many songs contain several solos, rather than just being restrained to one. Hetfield, on the other hand, may have lost the timber in his voice from the 80s, but his singing is still brilliant, though the lyrics aren't exactly the best. Lars Ulrich never seems to slow down either, but at times his drumming interferes with the solos.

Death Magnetic is arguably the best Metallica album since ...And Justice For All. From the top level singing from Hetfield, to the powerful solos from Hammett, this is the album all Metallica fans have been waiting for since the early 90s. Welcome back Metallica...we missed you."
"There are solos in abundance throughout, including some great Thin Lizzy-esque twin solos too, and given that all tracks aside from the closer, ‘My Apocalypse’, clock in between six and nine-and-a-half minutes long, there are plenty of time changes and musical explorations. ‘My Apocalypse’ – with lyrics that lend themselves to the album title – closes proceedings in a five-minute galloping flurry of metal, reminiscent of ‘Battery’ and ‘Damage Inc’. ‘Suicide & Redemption’ sees the quartet partake in a nine-minute instrumental; and while it may not be a ‘Call Of Ktulu’ or ‘Orion’, it’s an immense chug fest, displaying a real sense of epicness for a band who’ve rediscovererd the art and enjoyment of jamming again."

St Anger Album Lyrics Metallica

St Anger Album Lyrics Metallica

Here's the lyrics to Metallica's 'difficult' album. Making it turned out to being Some Kind of Monster where the band nearly destroyed themselves. Metallica's egos finally smashed into one another longer than any time in their history so much so they called in a conusellor to help them get thorugh it all.

Drummer Lars Ulrich has said if it wasn't for St Anger, then Death Magnetic could not have been made. So we have to take the good with the bad!

"St. Anger" is the eighth studio album by Metallica. It was released on June 5, 2003  after much build up. It was originally scheduled for release on June 10, 2003, but because of Lars Ulrich's fears of extended music piracy over filesharing networks, St. Anger was released five days earlier.

The album broke number one in 30 countries, including the U.S. Billboard 200 and Canadian Albums Chart.

In 2004, the lead single from the album, "St. Anger", won a Grammy Award for "Best Metal Performance".

Playing live in recent times, Metallica have not played many songs from the album, preferring to go with songs from Death Magnetic and their back catalogue.

St Anger Lyrics:

1. Frantic
If I could have my wasted days back
Would I use them to get back on track?
Stop to warm at Karma's burning
Or look ahead, but keep on turning?

Do I have the strength
To know how I'll go?
Can I find it inside
To deal with what I shouldn't know?

Could I have my wasted days back
Would I use them to get back on track?

You live it or lie it!

My lifestyle determines my death style

Keep searching, Keep on searching
This search goes on, This search goes on

Frantic tick tick tick tick tick tick tock
Frantic tick tick tick tick tick tick tock

I've worn out always being afraid
An endless stream of fear that I've made
Treading water full of worry
This frantic tick tick talk of hurry

Do I have the strength
To know how I'll go?
Can I find inside
To deal with what I shouldn't know?

Worn out always being afraid
An endless stream of fear that I've made

You live it or lie it!

My lifestyle determines my death style

Keep searching, Keep on searching
This search goes on, This search goes on
Frantic tick tick tick tick tick tick tock
Frantic tick tick tick tick tick tick tock

My lifestyle (Birth Is Pain)
Determines my death style (Life Is Pain)
A rising tide (Death Is Pain)
That pushes to the other side (It's All The Same)

2. St Anger

Saint Anger 'round my neck
He never gets respect
Saint Anger 'round my neck

You flush it out, You flush it out
Saint Anger 'round my neck
You flush it out, You flush it out
He never gets respect

Fuck it all and no regrets
I hit the lights on these dark sets
I need a voice to let myself
To let myself go free
Fuck it all and fuckin' no regrets
I hit the lights on these dark sets
Medallion noose, I hang myself
Saint Anger 'round my neck

I feel my world shake
Like an earth quake
Hard to see clear
Is it me? Is it fear?

I'm madly in anger with you

And I want my anger to be healthy
And I want my anger just for me
And I need my anger not to control me
And I want my anger to be me

And I need to set my anger free

Set it free!

3. Some Kind Of Monster
These are the eyes that can't see me
These are the hands that drop your trust
These are the boot s that kick you around
This is the tongue that speaks on the inside
These are the ears that ring with hate
This is the face that I'll never change
This is the fist that grinds you down
This is the voice of silence no more

These are the legs in
circles run
This is the beating you'll never know
These are the lips that taste no freedom
This is the feel that's not safe
This is the face you'll never change
This is the god that ain't so pure
This is the god that is not pure
This is the voice of silence no more

We the people
Are we the people?

Some kind of monster
The monster lives

This is the face that stones you cold
This is the moment that needs to breathe
These are the claws that scratch these wounds
This is the pain that never leaves
This is the tongue that whips you down
This is the burden of every man
These are the screams that pierce your skin
This is the voice of silence no more

This is the test of flesh and soul
This is the trap that smells so good
This is the flood that drains these eyes
These are the looks that chill to the bone
These are the fears that swing over head
These are the weights that hold you down
This is the end that will never end
This is the voice of silence no more

We the people
Are we the people?

Some kind of monster
The monster lives

This is the cloud that swallows trust
This is the black that uncolors us
This is the face that you hide from
This is the mask that comes undone
Ominous,
I'm in us

4. Dirty Window
I see my reflection in the window
It looks different, so different than what you see
Projecting Judgement on the world
This house is clean baby
This house is clean

Am I who I think I am?
Am I who I think I am?
Am I who I think I am?
Look out my window and see it's gone wrong
Court is in session and I slam my gavel down

I'm judge and I'm jury and I'm executioner too

Projector, Protector, Rejector, Infector, Projector
Infrector, Injector, Defector, Rejector

I see my reflection in the window
This window clean inside, dirty on the out
I'm looking different than me
This house is clean baby
This house is clean

Am I who I think I am?
Am I who I think I am?
Am I who I think I am?
Look out my window and see it's gone wrong
Court is in session and I slam my gavel down

I'm judge and I'm jury and I'm executioner too

Projector, Protector, Rejector, Infector, Projector
Infrector, Injector, Defector, Rejector

I drink from the cup of denial
I'm judging the world from my throne
I drink from the cup of denial
I'm judging the world from my throne

5. Invisible Kid Lyrics
Invisible kid
Never see what he did
Got stuck where he hid
Fallen through the grid

Invisible kid
Got a place of his own
Where he'll never be known
Inward he's grown

Invisible kid
Locked away in his brain
From the shame and the pain
World down the drain

Invisible kid
Suspicious of your touch
Don't want no crutch
But it's all too much

I hide inside
I hurt inside
I hide inside, bull I'll show you...

I'm OK, just go away
Into distance let me fade
I'm OK, just go away
I'm OK, but please don't stray too far

Open your heart
I'm beating right here
Open your mind
I'm beating right here
Open your heart
I'm beating right here
Open your mind
I'm beating right here

Ooh, what a good boy you are
Out of the way and you're kept to yourself
Ooh, can't you see that he's not here
He doesn't want the attention you give
Ooh, unplugging from it all
Invisible kid floats alone in his room
Ooh, what a quiet boy you are
He looks so calm floating 'round and around himself

6. My World
The motherfuckers got in my head
Trying to make me someone else instead

It's my world now

Mama, why's it rainin' in my room
Cheer up boy clouds will move on soon
Heavy fog got me lost inside
Gonna sit right back and enjoy this ride

It's my world now
You can't have it
It's my world, It's my world
It's my world

I'm out of my head, out of my head
Get 'em out of my head, out of my head
Get 'em out

Who's in charge of my head today
Dancin' devils in angels way

It's my time now

Look out motherfuckers here I come
Gonna make my head home
The sons of bitches tried to take my head
Tried to make me someone else instead

It's my world now
You can't have it
It's my world, It's my world
It's my world

I'm out of my head, out of my head
Get 'em out of my head, out of my head
Get 'em out

Not only do I not know the answer
I don't even know what the question is

God it feels like it only rains on me

Not only do I not know the answer
I don't even know what the question is

I'm out of my head, out of my head
Get 'em out of my head, out of my head
Get 'em out

Enough's enough

7. Shoot Me Again Lyrics
I won't go away
Right here I'll stay

Stand silent in flames
Stand tall 'till it fades

Shoot me again
I ain't dead yet

Shoot me again

All these shots I take
I spit back at you
All the shit you fake
Comes back to haunt you

All the shots

All the shots I take
What difference did I make?
All the shots I take
I spit back at you

I won't go away, with a bullet in my back
Right here I'll stay, with a bullet in my back

Shoot me take a shot

I'll stand on my own, with a bullet in my back
I'm stranded and sold, with a bullet in my back

I bite my tongue
Trying not to shoot back
No compromise
My heart won't pump the other way

Wake the sleeping giant
Wake the beast
Wake the sleeping dog
No, Let him sleep

8. Sweet Amber Lyrics
[x2]
Wash your back so you won't stab mine
Get in bed with your own kind
Live your life so you don't see mine
Drape your back so you won't shine

[x2]
Oh then she holds my hand
And I lie to get a smile

[x4]
Using what I want
To get what you want

Oh Sweet Amber
How sweet are you?
How sweet does it get?
How sweet are you?
How sweet does it get?

[x2]
Chase the rabbit, fetch the stick
She rolls me over 'til I'm sick
She deals in habits, deals in pain
I run away but I'm back again

Oh then she holds my hand
And I lie to get a smile
And she squeezes tighter
I still lie to get a smile

[x4]
Using what I want
To get what you want

Oh Sweet Amber
How sweet are you?
How sweet does it get?
How sweet are you?
How sweet does it get?

[x2]
She holds the pen that spells the end
She traces me and draws me in

Ooh Sweet Amber
Ooh Sweet Amber

How sweet are you?
How sweet does it get?
How sweet are you?
How sweet does it get?

(It's never as sweet as it seems)

9. Unnamed Feeling

Been here before
Been here before couldn't say I liked it
Do I start writing this down?
Just let me plug you into my world
Can't you help me be uncrazy?

Name this for me, heat the cold air
Take the chill off of my life
And if I could I'd turn my eyes
To look inside and see what's comin'

It comes alive, It comes alive, It comes alive
And I die a little more
It comes alive, It comes alive, It comes alive
Each moment here I die a little more

Then the unnamed feeling
It comes alive
The the unnamed feeling
Takes me away

I'm frantic in your soothing arms
I can not sleep in this down filled world
I've found safety in this loneliness
But I can not stand it anymore

Cross my heart hope not to die
Swallow evil, ride the sky
Lose myself in a crowded room
You fool, you fool, it will be here soon

It comes alive, It comes alive, It comes alive
And I die a little more
It comes alive, It comes alive, It comes A-live
Each moment And I die a little more

Then the unnamed feeling
It comes alive
The the unnamed feeling
Treats me this way
And I wait for this train
Toes over the line
And then the unnamed feeling
Takes me away

Get the fuck out of here
I just wanna get the fuck away from Me
I rage, I glaze, I hurt, I hate
I hate it all, why? Why? Why me?

I cannot sleep with a head like this
I wanna cry, I wanna scream
I rage, I glaze, I hurt, I hate
I wanna hate it all away

10. Purify

Tear it down
Strip the layers off
My turpentine
Old paint, old looks
Cover up the past
White heat, white light
Super white bones
Bones of you and I

Pure if I... can't you help me?
Pure if I... won't you help me?
Purify you and I
Purify you and I
Pure if I... can't you help me?
Pure if I... won't you help me?
Purify you and I
Purify you and I

Truth and dare
Peeling back the skin
Acid wash
Ghost white
Ultra clean
Wanna be skeleton
Clear eyes
Diamond eyes
Strip the past of mine
My sweet turpentine

I can find the dirt on anything
I can find the dirt on anything

I ain't dancing with your skeletons
I ain't dancing with what might have been

metallica band shot11. All Within My Hands
All within my hands
Squeeze it in, crush it down
All within my hands
Hold it dear, hold it suffocate

All within my hands
Love to death, smack you 'round and 'round and
All within my hands
Beware

Love is control
I'll die if I let go

Hate me now
Kill all within my hands
Hate me now
Crush all within my hands
Squeeze all within my hands
Choke all within my hands
Hate me now
Trap all within my hands
Hurry up and hate me now
Kill all within my hands

All within my hands
Take your fear, pump me up
All within my hands
Let you run, then I pull your leash

All within my hands
Under thumb, under to myself
All within my hands
Beware

Hate me now
Kill all within my hands
Hate me now
Crush all within my hands
Squeeze all within my hands
Choke all within my hands
Hate me now
Trap all within my hands
Hurry up and hate me now
Kill all within my hands again

I'll die if I let go
Control is love, love is control
I'll die if I let go
Control is love, love is control

I will only let you breath
My air that you receive
Then we'll see if I let you love me
Kill Kill Kill Kill Kill

Lars and Metallica 'happy' about Death Magnetic album leak.

Death Magnetic - the long-awaited studio album by hard metal act Metallica - has leaked onto the internetz, but the Lars says it is "happy" about it.

The metal album, featuring first single The Day That Never Comes, was leaked when a French record store supposedly began selling Death Magnetic before the September 12 release date.

As a result of the leak, here's the Death Magnetic Lyrics

Metallica Drummer Lars Ulrich - who infamously took the evil online file-sharing site Napster to court in 2000 and beat them into a bloody pulp of computer bits and bytes - told the American radio station Live 105 Metallica was not worried about the early release.

"I mean, from here, we're golden. If this thing leaks all over the world today or tomorrow, happy days. Happy days. Trust me. It's 2008 and it's part of how it is these days, so it's fine. We're happy."

Lars further added:

"Ten days out and it hasn't quote-unquote fallen off the truck yet? Everybody's happy.

Metallica has filmed a rockin video near Los Angeles for the first single of Death Magnetic, The Day That Never Comes. It was directed by drummer Lars Ulrich's Danish compatriot Thomas Vinterberg.

James Hetfield has discussed what Death Magnetic refers:

"Death Magnetic, at least the title, to me [...] started out as kind of a tribute to people that have fallen in our business, like Layne Staley and a lot of the people that have died, basically rock and roll martyrs of sorts. And then it kind of grew from there, Thinking about death€¦ some people are drawn towards it, and just like a magnet, [and] other people are afraid of it and push away. And the concept that we're all gonna die sometimes is over-talked about and then a lot of times never talked about no one wants to bring it up; it's the big white elephant in the living room. But we all have to deal with it at some point."

The Metallica Lyric Lounge will have the lyrics for The Day That Never Comes and all of Death Magnetic as soon as its released.

My Apocalypse Lyrics from Metallica's Death Magnetic album.

lyrics

Claustrophobic
Crawl out of this skin
Hard explosive
Reaching for that pin
Feel thy name extermination
Desecrating, Hail of Fire
So we cross that line
Into the crypt
Total eclipse
Suffer unto my apocalypse!
Deadly vision
Prophecy revealed
Death magnetic
Pulling closer still
Feel thy name annihilation
Desolating, Hail of Fire
So we cross that line
Into the crypt
Total eclipse
Suffer unto my apocalypse!
My apocalypse… Go!
Crushing metal, Ripping Skin
Tossing body mannequin
Spilling Blood, Bleeding Gas
Mangle flesh, Snapping spine
Dripping bloody valentine
Shattered face, spitting glass

Split apart
Split apart
Split apart
Split
Spit it out!

What makes me drift a litter bit closer
Dead man takes the steering wheel
What makes me know it’s time to cross over
Words you repeat until I feel
See through the skin the bones they all rattle
Future and past they disagree
Flesh falls away the bones they all shatter
I start to see the end in me
See the end in me…
Claustrophobic
Climb out of this skin
Hard explosive
Waiting for that pin
Violate, annihilate
A loser to my eyes
Obliterate, exterminate
At last accept, deny
Feel thy name as hell awakens
Destiny, Inhale the Fire
But we cross that line
Into the crypt
Total eclipse
Suffer unto my apocalypse!
Tyrants awaken my apocalypse!
Demon awaken my apocalypse!
Heaven awaken my apocalypse!
Suffer forever my apocalypse!

'The Judas Kiss' lyrics by Metallica

'The Judas Kiss' lyrics by Metallica

The Judas Kiss refers to when, according to the Bible,  the apostle Judas pointed out Jesus to those he led to arrest him by means of a kiss and thus betraying him. The term 'Judas' is thus commonly meant to mean someone who betrays another person or cause.

The Judas Kiss Lyrics

When the world has turned its back
When the days have turned pitch black
When the fear abducts your tongue
When the fire's dead and gone

So what now?
Where do I head?

When you think it's all said and done
When you are the ostracized
Selfish written, dead goodbyes
Twisting of the tourniquet
When the pieces never fit

So what now?
Where do I head?

When you think it's all said and done

Bow down
Sell your soul to me
I will set you free
Pacify your demons

Bow down
Surrender unto me
Submit infectiously
Sanctify your demons

Into abyss
You don't exist
Cannot resist
The Judas kiss

When the storm has blacked your sky
Intuition crucify
When the ego strips your reign
Assasinate the living flame

So what now?
Where do I head?

When you think it's all said and done
Venom of a life insane
Bites into your fragile veins
Internalize and decimate
Pitting it as complicate

So what now?
Where do I head?

When you think it's all said and done

Bow down
Sell your soul to me
I will set you free
Pacify your demons

Bow down
Surrender unto me
Submit infectiously
Sanctify your demons

Into abyss
You don't exist
Cannot resist
The Judas kiss

Judas lives recite this vow
I've become your new god now

Follow you from dawn of time
Whisper thoughts into your mind
Watched your towers hit the ground
Lured the children never found
Helped your kings abuse their crown

In the heart of evil man
Plant the seeds of my own plan
Strong and powerful will fall
Find a piece of me in all
Inside you all

So bow down
Sell your soul to me
I will set you free
Pacify your demons

Bow down
Surrender unto me
Submit infectiously
Sanctify your demons

Into abyss
You don't exist
Cannot resist
The Judas kiss

Death Magnetic

'Cyanide' lyrics by Metallica

Cyanide is from Metallica's album, Death Magnetic - their fifth number one album in America!

Cyanide Lyrics:

Sleep, and dream of this
Death angel's kiss
Brings final bliss
Come believe me!

Empty they say
Death, won't you let me stay?
Empty they say
Death, won't you call your name?
Oh, call your name!

Suicide, I've already died
You're just the funeral I've been waiting for
Cyanide, living dead inside
Break this empty shell forevermore

Wait, wait patiently
Your death-black wings
Unfolding sleep
Spreading on me

Empty they say
Death, won't you let me stay?
Empty they say
Death, hear me call your name
Oh, call your name!

Suicide, I've already died
You're just the funeral I've been waiting for
Cyanide, living dead inside
Break this empty shell forevermore

Say, is that rain or are they tears?
That stained your concrete face for years
Crying, weeping, shedding strife
Year after year, life after life

A narrow freshly broken ground
A concrete angel laid right down
Upon the grave which swallows fast
It's peace at last
Oh, peace at last

Empty they say
Death, won't you let me stay?
Empty they say
Death, hear me call your name
Oh, call your name

Suicide, I've already died
You're just the funeral I've been waiting for
Cyanide, living dead inside
Break this empty shell forevermore

Forevermore!
Forevermore!
It's the funeral I've been waiting for!

'All Nightmare Long' / Death Magnetic / Metallica Lyric

All Nightmare Long is a track from Metallica's album Death Magnetic. It was released as the 5th single from the album. Lyrically, its a cousin of sorts to Metallica's cross over hit, Enter Sandman with its references to dreaming. Jame Hetfeild took the song further though and commented:

It was an attempt to get back to the H.P. Lovecraft mythos with Thing that Should Not Be, Call of Kthulu. This was about the hounds of Tindalos, which was another crazy mindfuck about these wolves that hunt through their nightmares and the only way you can get away from them is stay with angels. You can't even escape through sleep.

All Nightmare Long Lyrics:

Luck. Runs. Out.
Crawl from the wreckage one more time
Horrific memory twists the mind
Dark, rugged, cold and hard to turn
Path of destruction, feel it burn
Still life
Incarnation
Still life
Infamy

Hallucination
Heresy
Still you run, what's to come?
What's today?

'Cause we hunt you down without mercy
Hunt you down all nightmare long
Feel us breathe upon your face
Feel us shift, every move we trace
Hunt you down without mercy
Hunt you down all nightmare long, yeah
Luck. Runs.

You crawl back in
But your luck runs out

1.2.

Luck. Runs. Out.

The light that is not light is here
To flush you out with your own fear
You hide, you hide, but will be found
Release your crypt without a sound

Still life
Immolation
Still life
Infamy

Hallucination
Heresy
Still you run, what's to come?
What's today?

'Cause we hunt you down without mercy
Hunt you down all nightmare long
Feel us breathe upon your face
Feel us shift, every move we trace
Hunt you down without mercy
Hunt you down all nightmare long
Luck. Runs.

You crawl back in
But your luck runs out

Then you crawl back in
Into your obsession
Never to return
This is your confession

Hunt you down without mercy
Hunt you down all nightmare long
Feel us breathe upon your face
Feel us shift, every move we trace
Hunt you down without mercy
Hunt you down all nightmare long, yeah
Luck. Runs.

You crawl back in
But your luck runs out

Your luck runs out

'The Day That Never Comes' / Death Magnetic / Metallica Lyric

'The Day That Never Comes' / Death Magnetic album / Metallica Lyric

This song was the lead single from Death Magnetic.

Born to push you around
You better just stay down
You pull away
He hits the flesh
You hit the ground
Mouths so full of lies
Tend to black your eyes
Just keep them closed
Keep praying
Just keep waiting

Waiting for the one
The day that never comes
When you stand up and feel the warmth
but the sunshine never comes
No the sunshine never comes

Push you cross that line
Just stay down this time
Hide in yourself
Crawl in yourself
You'll have your time
God I'll make them pay
Take it back one day
I'll end this day
I'll splatter color on this grave

Waiting for the one
The day that never comes
When you stand up and feel the warmth
but the sunshine never comes
No the sunshine never comes

Love is a four letter word
And never spoken here
Love is a four letter word
Here in this prison
I suffer this no longer
I put it into
This I swear!
This I swear!
The sun will shine
This I swear!
This I swear!
This I swear!

Wikipedia has some good nuggets of info on The Day That Never Comes.

It was Metallica's fortieth single - when they do a 'best of' album this is sure to be on! It's also marks the first studio release the new bassist Robert Trujillo has recorded with the band.

Metallica mainstay James Hetfield has said of The Day That Never Comes:

"That's the beauty, I think, of writing vague but powerful lyrics — that someone like a movie director can interpret it in his own way and obviously, someone creative is able to take the metaphors and apply them to whatever he needs in his own life," the singer explained. "The main [theme of the video] is the human element of forgiveness and someone doing you wrong, you feeling resentment and you being able to see through that in the next situation that might be similar and not take your rage or resentment out on the next person and basically keep spreading the disease of that through life...

The one thing that I wasn't keen on here was Metallica plugging into a modern war or a current event [that] might be construed as some sort of political statement on our part...
There are so many celebrities that soapbox their opinions, and people believe it's more valid because they're popular.

For us, people are people — you should all have your own opinion. We are hopefully putting the human element in what is an unfortunate part of life. There are people over there dealing with situations like this, and we're showing the human part of being there."

Them, seem pretty grown up words, eat your heart out Sean Penn!
